Hydraulic quick-connect couplings allow for the rapid connection or disconnection of fluid lines without the need for tools. They come in four main structural configurations: straight-through, single shut-off, double shut-off, and safety/leak-free. Common materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, and brass.

Straight-through: These systems lack check valves, allowing for maximum flow rates and eliminating flow fluctuations caused by valves. They are ideal for fluid media such as water. Note that the flow of the medium must be stopped before disconnecting.

Single shut-off: In this type, the plug features a straight-through design, while the socket contains a check valve that closes immediately upon disconnection, effectively preventing fluid leakage. These are ideal for compressed air equipment.

Double shut-off: When disconnected, check valves in both the socket and the plug close simultaneously, retaining the medium within the lines and maintaining the original pressure.

Safety/leak-free: Both the socket and plug feature valves with flush-face designs that minimize dead space, ensuring zero leakage of the medium upon disconnection. This design is particularly suitable for corrosive media or sensitive environments, such as cleanrooms and chemical plants.
